Termite Baiting: A replacement food source providing to the termites that typically contains an insect growth regulator to prevent them from moulting, eventually resulting in complete colony elimination

Termite Dusting: An appropriate pesticide dust is applied to the termite workings, the termites carry the dust particles on their bodies, eventually these particles are transferred back to the nest resulting in colony elimination

Termite Foaming: An appropriate pesticide foam is applied to the termite workings, the treated termites transfer the pesticide to other termites and eventually back to the nest, resulting in colony elimination

Direct Termiticide Application: An appropriate pesticide is applied to the nest directly, resulting in colony elimination

The type of stage 1 termite treatment used will depend on several factors including the species of termite, the location of the property and environmental conditions, the time of year, the property construction and the property owners’ preferences.

How Do I Know If I Have Termites?

Common symptoms of termite infestation include:

  • Wooden structures that sound hollow: One common symptom of a termite infestation is the presence of wooden structures that sound hollow when tapped or knocked on. Termites feed on the cellulose found in wood, and as they consume the internal portions of wooden structures, they leave only a thin layer of wood on the surface. When you tap or knock on such infested structures, you may notice a hollow or empty sound due to the absence of solid wood.
  • Tiny holes in plaster: Termites often create tunnels and galleries within walls, causing damage to the plaster. As they construct these intricate networks, they may create tiny holes or tunnels in the plaster. These holes can be small and difficult to spot initially but may become more evident as the termite infestation progresses.
  • Buckling floorboards: Another symptom of termite infestation is the appearance of buckling or warped floorboards. As termites tunnel and feed on the wooden subfloor or floorboards, they weaken the structural integrity of the wood. This can result in the floorboards becoming uneven, warped, or even sagging in severe cases. If you notice unusual changes in the condition of your floor, it may be a sign of termite activity.
  • Discarded termite wings: Termites often swarm during certain times of the year when they establish new colonies. As part of this process, winged termites, known as swarmers or alates, leave their existing colony in search of a mate and a new location for a colony. After they find a suitable mate and establish a new colony, these swarmers shed their wings. If you come across discarded termite wings around your home, particularly near windowsills or other light sources, it could indicate the presence of a termite infestation.
  • Doors and windows are stiff to open if they have wooden frames: Termites can cause damage to wooden door and window frames. As they feed on and tunnel through the wood, they create moisture and debris, which can lead to the frames becoming swollen or distorted. This can result in the frames sticking or becoming stiff, making it difficult to open or close doors and windows smoothly. If you experience resistance or notice changes in the functionality of wooden frames, termites could be the cause.

It’s important to note that while these symptoms are common indicators of a termite infestation, they may vary depending on the species of termites and the extent of the infestation. If you suspect a termite problem, it is advisable to consult with a professional pest control service for an accurate assessment and appropriate treatment.

Termite Treatment FAQs

If you find termites, it is essential that you do not disturb them or spray them with any household products.

This will likely cause the termites to leave that area, making it difficult to identify the species and possibly limiting your stage 1 termite treatment options.

You should contact Surekil Pest Control as soon as possible, we will come out and carry out a full termite inspection and assess the extent of your problem and recommend the appropriate stage 1 termite treatment solution.

A stage 1 termite treatment is typically a method of using a chemical to eliminate a termite infestation from your property such as baiting, dusting, foaming or direct termiticide application but it could also be the physical removal of a termite nest if appropriate.

There is no best treatment for termites only a best treatment for a specific termite infestation.

The best termite treatment would be determined by your pest management technician based on factors including but not limited to the species of termite, the construction of the property, whether the block is flat or sloped and the soil type.

While there are DIY termite treatment options available, professional assistance is highly recommended. Effective termite control requires specialised knowledge and access to professional-grade products. Pest control professionals are trained to identify termite species, assess the extent of infestation and implement the most effective treatment methods.

Attempting to treat termites without proper training and equipment can be ineffective and may allow the infestation to worsen. That is why it is best to rely on professionals who can ensure long-lasting results.

Regular termite inspections are important for early detection and prevention of infestations. It is generally recommended to have a professional termite inspection conducted annually. However, in high-risk areas or if your property has a history of termite problems, more frequent inspections may be necessary.

Early identification of termite activity allows for prompt treatment, potentially saving you from extensive damage and costly repairs. Consult with our team to determine the inspection frequency that best suits your specific situation.

Professional termite treatment typically involves the following steps:
  • Inspection: A thorough inspection of your property is conducted to identify termite species, determine the extent of infestation and locate termite nests or colonies.
  • Assessment and recommendation: Based on the inspection findings, we will recommend the most suitable treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
  • Treatment application: Termite treatments involve various methods, including baiting, dusting, foaming or termiticide application. The chosen method will depend on the severity of the infestation, termite species present and other factors.
  • Follow-up: After initial treatment, we ensure regular follow-ups to maintain the effectiveness of the treatment and prevent future infestations.
By following this comprehensive approach, our team provides long-term protection from termite infestation.
Yes, there are eco-friendly termite control options available. These alternatives aim to minimise environmental impact while effectively eradicating termites. Eco-friendly termite control methods include:
  • Baiting systems: These systems use termite bait stations containing non-toxic substances that are attractive to termites. Once ingested, termites carry the bait back to the colony, effectively eliminating it.
  • Heat treatments: This method can eliminate termites without the need for chemical applications. It is safe for humans and pets and offers a green alternative to traditional treatments.
  • Natural repellents: Certain plant extracts and essential oils, such as neem oil or orange oil, may help repel termites. While these options may not eradicate an existing infestation, they can be used as preventive measures.
When considering eco-friendly termite control options, consult with our team to determine the most suitable solution for your specific circumstances.

While certain treatments can be completed in a single visit, others may require multiple visits over several weeks. During the initial inspection, we will provide an estimated timeline based on your specific situation. It is important to remember that termite treatment requires patience to achieve optimal results.

While termite treatment can eradicate existing infestations, it is important to follow preventive measures to reduce the risk of re-infestation. These may include:
  • Moisture control: Termites are attracted to moisture. Proper moisture control measures can help deter them, such as fixing leaks and ensuring proper ventilation.
  • Termite-resistant construction: When building or renovating, using termite-resistant materials and techniques can provide added protection against future infestations.
  • Chemical barriers: Applying long-lasting chemical barriers around the perimeter of the property can act as a deterrent, preventing termites from entering.
By combining effective termite treatment with preventive measures, you can minimise the risk of future infestations and safeguard your property.
After termite treatment, follow the recommendations provided by our team. Here are general points to consider:
  • Monitoring: Keep an eye out for any visible signs of termite activity, such as new mud tubes or damaged wood. If you notice anything suspicious, contact Surekil Pest Control immediately.
  • Regular maintenance: Ensure that your property remains in good condition. Well-maintained structures are less likely to attract termites.
  • Scheduled inspections: Maintain a regular schedule of termite inspections. This will help detect any new infestations at an early stage.
By following these post-treatment guidelines, you can help maintain the effectiveness of the termite treatment and protect your property in the long term.
