Do Carpenter Ants Eat Wood?

No. Carpenter Ants do not eat wood, they prefer sugary liquids like honeydew and the sweet secretions of bugs such as aphids, in fact they are known to tend to aphids to increase their survivability. They also eat the fluids and body parts of dead insects and sometimes live insects.

Carpenter Ants tunnel into wood and excavate it, depositing the debris outside.

Do Carpenter Ants Bite?

Yes. Carpenter Ants can bite, though it’s rare. They are not aggressive and would typically bite when they feel threatened or when their nests are disturbed. Carpenter ant bites can be painful, but they are not generally considered dangerous to human health.

Can You Hear Carpenter Ants Chewing?

Yes. Particularly at night, you maybe able to hear faint rustling or chewing noises.
