The spiders that you find around your home typically fall into two categories, ground dwelling spiders and webbing spiders:
- The Ground Dwelling Spiders commonly found in Southeast QLD and northern NSW include Funnel-web spiders, Huntsman Spiders, Garden Wolf Spider, Mouse Spiders, Trapdoor spiders, White-tailed Spider and Wolf Spiders.

Tips for Getting Rid of Spiders
Tips for reducing the number of spiders in your home:
- Seal up all cracks and crevices around your property,
- Keep the foliage around your property well-trimmed and off the property walls,
- Keep your property as free of clutter and stored goods as much as is reasonably practical,
- Remove any spider webs that you find,
- Keep your property well ventilated and free of excess moisture,
- Spray or vacuum up any spiders that you find.

Spider FAQ
It is rumoured that a Daddy-long legs venom is the most toxic in the world, but they are not dangerous to humans as their fangs cannot pierce our skin.
However, the US television show, Mythbusters, busted the myth that they could not pierce human skin and the subject reported only a short-lived stinging sensation, the venom is not actually that potent, even for insects.
Most reputable sources, agree that this species would not be considered harmful to humans.
To know if a spider is poisonous, you must first identify the spider, the Australian Museum has an extensive Australian spiders image gallery that can help with this and provide further information about the spider once identified.
If you think someone may have been bitten by a poisonous spider, don’t wait for symptoms to occur, call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 for first aid advice.
If the person has collapsed or is not breathing, call Triple Zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.
Where possible try to identify the spider, taking a photo can help with this, else write down any distinguishing features and markings that you can see.
Do not try to capture the spider unless safe to do so.
